Hothead Sports and Team 7 Racing in First Place in 2008 ORSCA Point Standings
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
( Columbus , GA ) – The 2008 Outlaw Racing Street Car Association (ORSCA) season is shaping up well for TEAM 7 RACING . Following a dominant weekend at Montgomery Motorsports Park , driver Jeremy Ellis is currently first in the 2008 ORSCA points standings at 349, fifty-five points ahead of his closest competitor, Israel Deraney.
After rain cancellations in Huntsville and Bristol , the team headed to Atlanta Dragway. Ellis qualified number seven but was knocked out in the first round by Eddie Smith's first generation Camaro. The disappointing finish still netted the team valuable points in the series championship.
Stop number four on the ORSCA calendar took the team to Carolina Dragway in Jackson , SC. The weekend started off right, as Ellis' 582 cubic inch Huntsville Engine powered him to a number one qualifying position, earning a bye run in the first round. Ellis beat Brian Farrar in round two, Eddie Smith in round three, and Mike Ghee in round four. It was an all Corvette final when Ellis eliminated local favorite Vernon Russell for the race win.
TEAM 7 RACING then traveled to Montgomery Motorsports Park . Ellis qualified number fourteen and faced Ron Clark in round one. After beating Clark , Ellis ran a 5.015 to Brian Farrar's 5.018. In round three, Ellis beat Larry Peavey; 5.032 to a quicker 5.029 for the hole-shot win. Scott Underwood fell victim in round four as Ellis went on to face Lester Pitts in the final. Ellis' 4.998 narrowly edged out Pitts' 4.996 for another victory and the class lead.
Speaking on the 5.0 Championship lead, team owner Mack Gouge said, “I couldn't be happier at this stage in the season. Bringing Jeremy in for 2008 has proven to be a great addition to TEAM 7 RACING . We've done well so far this year and will continue to push for more race wins”.
In addition to the ORSCA series, Ellis is currently second in the championship at Phenix Drag Strip's 5.30 class piloting the hothead sports 1967 Chevy II, powered by a Huntsville Engine 555. The TEAM 7 RACING 1963 Corvette headed to Twiggs/Macon National Dragway Memorial Day weekend where the team suffered a 4.995 breakout loss to Larry Peavey in the semi-finals but gained valuable information in its quest for the ORSCA Championship. “We have learned a lot throughout the season”, said Ellis. “I've tried hard and will keep fighting for back-to-back ORSCA championships. All the guys at TEAM 7 RACING , hothead sports , Huntsville Engine, B&B Gear and Powertrain, PTC Tourque Converters, and Wayne Evans have been a huge help in achieving the success we've shown in 2008”.
Both the TEAM 7 RACING Corvette and Ellis' 5.30 Chevy II are sponsored by hothead sports ; a leader in athletic safety equipment. “ hothead sports couldn't be happier to see both of its racecars battling for their respective championships” said company CEO, Jay Buckalew, “It is a sign of great things to come”.
TEAM 7 RACING was founded by Mack Gouge in 1974. Since then, the team has fielded entries in SCCA, IMSA, PARTS Pro Truck Series, US LEC stock cars, Super Chevy, and ORSCA. The team has captured four road racing championships, dozens of wins, and countless top five finishes in the various series. The 2007 ORSCA 5.30 Series Champion, Jeremy Ellis, joined TEAM 7 RACING at the start of the 2008 season as the team's full-time driver and is currently competing for the 5.0 Series Championship.
